COSMOCRYSTAL II side red has finally been released! (゚∀゚) Congratulations!! It was a long road, but I’m so happy to finally see it released!

Since both sides are finally out, I would like to talk about the songs I made for CC2, as I’ve been rather quiet about them so far…

In fact, this song was supposed to be on the first COSMOCRYSTAL (if you listen closely to the first song there, “Legend of Ar Tonelico ∞ : Pantha=Rhei”, you can hear the line “SAKI>>FALSSIA xest ARIA//”)…I was not involved in the production of that one, but by the time I joined ARM, the song had been renamed and had already been in preparation for II.
Aria (the singer) had already done most of the melody and lyrics, so my work on it was primarily organization and some supplementary additions, mainly in the realm of countermelodies and chorals. Since a good portion of the work was done already, it was a good learning experience for me, as it was my first time doing a song of this kind and I was still adjusting to it.
Aria’s vocals particularly invoked a texture very close to Mitose Noriko’s hymmns (particularly EXEC_SUSPEND/.), so I drew very heavy influence from there. I technically did all of the arrangement, but many of the aspects of it were suggestions from Aria (the singer), particularly the marching drums. From the details of Aria’s character and the song’s lyrics, I tried to evoke a delicate, pure-hearted Alice in Wonderland-esque atmosphere — but because the song’s motif is “protection”, I also wanted to make sure it sounded like something that could come from someone very strong in heart.

The process for this song still feels like a bit of a fever dream…Alro, Geiky, and I were all in a reverie of inspiration, I made the melody lines as quickly as I could and asked them for six lines, and ended up getting eight back (*^▽^*) Thank you for all your hard work, it was amazing to hear my own melodies sung by you two.
This actually ended up being my first duet song. Since it was also technically my first time composing a Hymmnos song, I focused in particular on the flow of the chorals; this kind of progression is very integral to my image of what a “prototypical Hymmnos song” is.
In terms of the Cosmocrystal setting, this song is a “beta” song sung by Craynel and Neolica, and is thus by nature an “incomplete” song. I think it’d be nice to think about what the “complete” version would be…?

This song was originally planned to be on side blue, but…this and that happened, and in all honesty it actually became the most difficult song I’ve ever made. Still, looking back, I’m ultimately satisfied with how it came out and all the efforts that went into it. Thank you to everyone who put up with me and all the changes this had to go through, especially singer Nate m(_ _)m
The song I was thinking of most while making this was EXEC_ViiBaCi_MjiiRa/., specifically the very ritualistic atmosphere that went into it. The character of Quinton has a lot of stress and worries that plague him, though, so I wanted to capture the dualism between his devotion to order and his own personal concerns, like the ebb and flow of the tide.
Due to the song’s very long production time and the difficulties associated with it, we ended up getting quite a few more people involved than the original plan. I did almost all of the arrangement, but after a point Trois had to help me when I hit a wall, so the piano part starting at around 3:34 was her contribution. Thank you very much, you really saved me m(_ _)m
The violin playing was also provided by Jessie, who brought a lot of life into that somewhat troublesome violin line. I must say that it’s quite a difference between having VST and a real violin ( ´ ▽ ` )…

In addition to composition work for the circle, I was also allowed to assist in translation efforts and video making for the crossfades. Either way, thank you to ARM for allowing me to participate in their work — it’s been an excellent learning experience and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future. Thank you very much m(_ _)m
